An Artist’s Date #1 = Assigned Play Time.
I’ve been in an Artist’s Way book club for the last 5 weeks and it’s opened the door to a bit of creative mischief and allocated more time for playfulness.
I have an old Polaroid camera that works about 40% of the time. It was a challenge to go from the ease of iPhone photos to attempting to frame a shot that might not even develop properly with the Polaroid camera. Then wait about 15 minutes for the film to develop. Reshoot and try again. The slow shutter speed, one-size-fits-all flash, no way to focus + my unsteady hand made this medium quite frustrating.
Art is the rollercoaster of embracing playfulness + testing my patience + pushing up against my own limiting beliefs.
It also made me think “keep it simple.” Close was not always better. Taking a photo without natural light (at night) was impossible. The best shots were the simplest. Not overcomplicated. Just simple.
